When we are online marketers and our ability to put food on the table depends on how well we market, and how good our traffic is...and when the statistics tell us that 85% of the traffic is from the search engines, it *really* matters for us to know how effective our submission to search engines and directories are, or otherwise.
Many modern day SEO gurus' are suggesting not to submit your new website to the major search engines, and prefer that you utilise a myraid of methods and techniques to get the search engine spider bots come to your new website to index it.
And from practical experience it is true that very often our webpages do get indexed within hours of applying some of the techniques to draw the search engine spider bots to come. For example, using the technique of posting the url of a new site into the traffic logs of around 10,000 websites and pages, I had 6 pages of a website indexed within 10 hours.
Using the more traditional blog and ping, I have pages indexed within 7 to 10 days, and some 3 days.
So do we submit to the web directories, search engines and ffa boards or not?
From the SEO point of view, when we submit to web directories ( Yahoo and Google and MSN are considered broadly as web directories as well ), we do get a link on these directories. And from statistics it is possible to get as many as 200 over links just posting to these sites and directories WITHOUT DOING ANY RECIPROCALNow just think how this many links will impact on your indexing position on the search engine rankings. You go up several notches with these many links!
LINK.
So from the practical aspects of submission, remember to optimise your webpage you are going to post or submit. Make sure the meta tags, description and keywords are all properly put in place. And remember to record the statistics- how many sites or directories they were sent, and how many FFA boards were involved.
Statistics are very important for you to understand scenarios and to devise appropiate marketing techniques subsequntly.
For example, today I submitted a totally new site- just the index page was submitted, actually to the search engines and web directories.
Search Engine Submission Report
Website Details Successful Submission Failed Submission
Statistics
Total number of search engines 1087
Total Successful submission 888
Total Failed Submission 184
Total Skipped Submission 15
Date Submission Thursday, January 05, 2006
Now I have submitted to 1087 search engines, webdirectories and FFA boards for today. Out of these 888 were successful submissions with 184 failed and 15 skipped due to timeout situations.
FFA links will drop off from the page when others post their links, so for FFA links more effort is required to post to these ffa boards, as it will be necessary to post daily..but you can use submitter softwares that go on auto post to the FFA sites, or you simply reverse your role to be the owner of a FFA board and be able to send out emails to those on your list!
Having submitted the web page, you will track it, monitor it and if required to add on new techniques and re-submissions ...and then wait for the results to come in!
In the next post in this series, I will talk about on page optimisation of the web page before submission in greater detail...so watch out!
